Running when dark (best legal weapons to carry)?

Mace is illegal in the UK. Tried google and nothing. Any LEGAL suggestions how to tool up would be most appreciated. Thanks!

thinking about it you could have an ACME railway crossing kit in your back pack- just like Wylie Yoyite....dont know where you can hide the big anvil to drop on their heads tho..

Is a flamethrower illegal? It certainly leaves no trace and has been a choice of weapon I have considered in the past.

Faster brain and / or legs than your attacker.
Due to shift work I often go for night runs with a head torch on. I must run 10 - 15 % slower.
Badgers. Foxes. Owls. I see 'em.
The only problem is it's harder to spot the dog shit.

The best weapon to carry whilst running in the dark?

try wearing one of those silly hats and the one-size-fits -all white robes that "them lot" wear to friday prayers-- should keep you safe from 50% of the likely attackers /demons as they will think that you are one of them and you never know, allah willing he might protect you from the rest.
failing that i would advise the Hitchock method i.e carry a frozen leg of lamb...should be good enough to sort out three or four coming at you...then you can cook up a BBQ** and eat the evidence and jog home....no weapon= no crime..
** please dont ask the great and good of WHO how to make BBQ "in the dark"...

or carry a knife made from ice so if you have to stab some cunt it will melt meaning all evidence is lost. Probably gonna need to take a freezer and genny to stop it melting

In all seriousness I nearly got in a row once when I was out running and see some you knows breaking in to a house. Only when I stopped to confront them did i realise i wouldnt have been able to do anything as I was blowing out my arse. Luckily they legged it but they could have done me over easily.

Thanks for all the great suggestions lads, I knew I could count on WHO to deliver. Some great suggestions there, not sure which is best.
One thing is for sure I will feel a lot safer now.
